From Cowden, IL to Jinja, Uganda: Silas' coming home trip!

We picked up Silas from the Orphanage in Jinja for the last time today.  Our trip has gone very well so far.
We left Cowden at 8:30am Thursday morning and arrived in Entebbe, Uganda at 10:00pm local time on Friday (that’s 2:00pm in Cowden).  So we travelled for a total of 29.5 hours spending 15 of those in the air (7hrs and 8hrs).  Needless to say we are not ready for the loooong trip home yet.  The entire time we were travelling I kept wishing that we had brought Grace, Will, and Eden.  We have seen so many things that they would have just loved.
We arrived in Uganda Friday night and Mindy’s friends Wayne and Tarah picked us up from the airport.  It was nice to be back in Uganda but we couldn’t really see anything because of how dark it was.  Uganda isn't lit well :).  We got back to their compound and basically went straight to bed.  Their home is lovely and our room is very nice.
We woke up this morning and went to get Silas.  The drive is about 90 minutes to two hours depending on traffic.  We drove straight to the Orphanage and were greeted by the nannies (or Aunties).  They are wonderful women who take care of many babies.  The kids were sleeping so they woke Silas up.  When they brought him out he was not happy!  He is so big and yet looks almost exactly the same to me.  I was only with him 4 weeks and haven’t seen him for a month.  Mindy hadn’t seen him for 6 months.  We left quickly to get lunch and brought him with us.  He cried very hard for about one minute.  Then he stopped and just kind of stared at the “moto car” that we were in.
By the way, he’s talking now.  He is so cute.  I think he has said “motocar” “mama” “uncle” “i love you” and “hallelujah.”  Pretty cute vocabulary!
Be the time we were eating he was laughing and adjusting to us very well.  He liked me most for about 10 minutes and then it was all about Mindy.
We went back to see some friends at The River View Lodge where we stayed in August.  They were happy to see us but very disappointed to not see Grace, Will, and Eden!  I really wish the kids were with us, but I am very glad that they didn’t have to travel.  That part is so hard.
We dropped off some shoes and books for Pastor Ivan.  He was very interested in the books and very appreciative.  Thank you for those who gave, especially Arick and Joel.  You guys gave some great books!  It was so nice to see our Ugandan friends Hannington and Ivan in person.  It felt good to walk on the red clay soil and see all the different kinds of plants and, of course, watching all the people.
On our way home from Jinja Silas slept the entire way.  However, we got sidetracked when Tarah got pulled over by the police for “reckless driving.”  I can assure you that she was not driving recklessly!  She was probably the safest driver on that road!  That took about 40 minutes.
We bought Silas some shoes and he is walking very well.  He surprised us and is wearing 18 month clothes.  We thought he was smaller.  We also brought him size 2 shoes, but he’s a size 6!  His feet are HUGE!  Maybe he will be really tall.  Don’t care.  Just want him home.
We are so greatful to be with him.  Please pray that the final piece works quickly.  Please pray for a miracle that we can get the visa on Monday.  That would be unbelievably quick.  Please continue to pray.
We have only had internet a few very quick times.  I hope to post a new blog each day with pictures, but only time will tell if that works.

Thank you so much for your prayers for us.  So many miracles have already happened in this process.  For now, we glad to be with him and longing to be home, in Cowden, with Grace, Will, Eden, and Silas!
