Are there things worth more than time or money?

This is part 2 of putting this quote into a real life example.

"As well as goods and services, people and relationships are reduced to a monetary value in an increasingly capitalist world." This quote is taken from "Consumerism as a way of life" written by Steven Miles.

Time and money. Will this give me more time? Will get this me more money? How much time is this going to take? How much money does that cost? Is that really worth my time? How much did they pay for that?

This even goes into churches. "We need to give to God. You can give through your money or your time."

What about love? Do couples with one kid love that kid twice as much as someone who has to split there love between two kids? When I started to love my wife, does that mean that I started to love my parents less?

How much love will this cost me? Will this get me more love? How much love will it take to do that?

Love doesn't work like time or money. You can't spend it all. It doesn't run from you - it strengthens you.

God isn't money. God isn't time. God is love.

If your life is wrapped up in the constant battle of time and money - maybe you are not really in touch with life as God created it. Matthew 6:31-33 reads, "So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Time and money are the markers of consumerism. Consumerism is increasingly becoming the key behavior and religion of our time. Seek first God's Kingdom - and time and money will follow suit.

So I guess in a church you can give of time and money, but you must do it because you are FIRST seeking the Kingdom of Heaven and His righteousness. Let's get first things first in the church.
