Go to church every week? Really?

How do you understand the world?  Where do you get your world-view?  If you get it from watching the news - you understand that world is filled with murder, corruption, ponzi schemes, child predators, civil war, famine, and people behaving in all sorts of terrible ways.  Those are the stories that make it in the news.  We know that that is not necessarily the whole story though.  Every day there are millions of acts of unselfishness that take place.  There are junior high kids standing up for fellow classmates who are being picked on.  There are people giving of their time and money to help people who can’t help themselves.  There are good parents making sacrifices to train their kids to live good lives.  These things happen all the time.

When you look at the world around you what do you see?  In Philippians chapter 4 Paul gives us an exercise to do.  He challenges us to change our perspective on life.  He doesn’t say that it will happen in three easy steps.  He tells us that a perspective change will help us to get the peace that doesn’t make any sense.  When someone is facing a terrible problem - how do they react?  If they smile all the way through it we think that they must be dumb and don’t really grasp how bad things are.  That may not be true at all.  There is a peace that passes all understanding.  The peace of God comes, of course, only from the God of Peace.

Why is it important to come to the Worship Service every Sunday?  It is an exercise to help us gain the peace that only comes from God.  Peace is what we are all wanting and searching for.  Well here it is.  Each Sunday we sing a few songs to worship the God of the universe.  That helps our perspective as we realize that what we are facing now, we are not facing alone.  God is with us and He is big enough to take care of our troubles.  Each Sunday we take communion and remember that God loves us so much that He sent His son to die for us.  That helps our perspective on life because we know we are loved by the almighty God.  Each Sunday we take an offering and train ourselves that money is not the most important thing in the world.  That helps us in the advertising and consumer-driven world.  We don’t need things to make us happy.  Each Sunday we study a section of scripture and look at how God has ordered this world.  As we reflect on the scriptures of God our perspective shifts from the problems that we see all around us to the peace that we receive from God.

Join us each Sunday, or a church in your area, to find the peace that comes only from God.  Haven’t been here for a while?  Come the next month or so during the Holiday season.  We host the worship service every Sunday because we know that there is value in meeting together each week.  If you have never been a person that has “gone to church” every week - try it and you will start to understand the full life that God has promised He will give to to you if you want it.
