Living in the Rhythm
In Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, Peter Scazzero writes the following, "Contemplative spirituality focuses on classic practices and concerns such as.....developing a balanced, harmonious rhythm of life that enables us to be aware of the sacred in all of life." Mmmmm...that feels nice. "A harmonious rhythm of life" is certainly what many people, if not all of us, are looking for. You can hear it in conversation. You can listen to it in songs. You can see it in advertisements and commercials. You can watch it on TV and in movies. You see it in sports and hear commentators. You can see it everywhere. There is a deep human desire to live in rhythm. We all want a certain cadence to our lives. A life that is harmonious. A life lived out of our passions and strengths. A life like that would bring peace and fulfillment.
The second part of his quote may be a bit more telling, "that enables us to be aware of the sacred in all of life." God defines the sacred, we do not. The connection to God is the conduit for living in rhythm. God created the music. There are not many songs. There is one song. When you can hear that one song you can live in that rhythm.
